MISSION STATEMENT

Clinton County

Tabitha Jordan, Director

Early Head Start (EHS) is a federally funded comprehensive child and family development program designed to serve pregnant women and families with children from birth to three years of age.  Proof of income and age are required for enrollment.  Parent involvement is promoted through Family Socialization Groups, Policy Council, Parent Committees, Fatherhood Meetings and cooking classes.

EHS will assist pregnant women to access comprehensive parental and postpartum care and educate them about proper health and nutrition.  EHS will encourage parents to keep prenatal appointments, including medical and dental exams.  Mental health interventions and follow-up, as well as substance abuse prevention and treatment will be encouraged, as needed.  EHS will provide the family prenatal education on fetal development, labor and delivery and postpartum recovery.

EHS provides weekly one and a half hour home visits that focus on child development, health, nutrition, mental health and socialization.  EHS parents, children and staff come together two times per month for socializations.  Developmental screenings are provided annually for all children.  At least 10% of enrollment opportunities are available to children with disabilities.
